Band Spotlight -Borstal Boys

b_W1sicmVzaXplIiwzMzBdLFsibWF4Il0sWyJ3ZSJdXQ==

The Borstal Boys self-titled CD started as a solo album for bass player Rocky Lamonde in late 2017. As he worked on putting together songs for the recording, he put together an incredible group of known musicians to play on the album including guitarist Vinny Q, drummer Scott Wilson, keyboardist Joe Pelesky (Houserockers), guitarist Patrick Norman (Rusted Root) and singer Mark Ponsonby.

During the recording, Bob McCutcheon owner of The Vault Recording Studio and owner of Vault Records, liked what he heard and signed Lamonde’s project which later turned into The Borstal Boys. The Borstal Boys is guitar driven with smooth vocals and bar room pianos. Scott Mervis, entertainment editor for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette describes the CD as crunchy bar-rock sound laced with R&B. The main song writing is done by Lamonde, Vinnie Q and Patrick Norman. Each song has individual influences in them. Lamonde feels they are a rock band deeply influenced by Rolling Stones and Faces.

The group have created a buzz in the Pittsburgh music scene. The album has legendary Pittsburgh players on it. Norm Nardini and Hermie Granati played on several of the tracks as well as Brett Staggs and Katie Simone. While recording, Lamonde reached out to Hermie Granati who played piano on several of the tracks and asked if he knew any piano players that were looking to get into a new project. A couple of weeks later Lamonde gets a phone call from Joe Pelesky, the keyboard player for over 15 years with Joey G and the Iron City Houserockers. In his years with the Houserockers, Joe has shared the stage with many high level musicians including Bruce Springsteen and The Band. Lamonde didn’t stop there, he approached Patrick Norman the bass player of Rusted Root to play guitar on the project. Patrick Norman has played all over the world and has toured with many giant acts, such as Led Zeppelin’s Page & Plant. Patrick and Rocky hit it off right away and started to write together.

The songs on the CD are about love, loss, and the pain of living with loss. Guitar player Vinny Q (formerly of the Zippers, Bill Toms and Torn and Frayed) wrote Marlene June, a song for his mother who passed in 2018. The song is a beautiful tribute to the wonderful life she lived and how she touched his life. She wasn’t a very religious person but the song is about the thought there has to be a place in heaven for non-believers too.

Head Full Of Ghosts is a song written about the things that go through your head during bad times. Sometimes it’s hard to block them out but they’re in there.

My Everything is about Lamonde’s girl who puts up with him. She has to be a saint.

Fallen Angel was written about a close friend that died too soon. A lifetime of partying catches up with you sooner or later.

The self-titled CD was mixed by Grammy winning engineer and producer Jimmy Hoyson.

The band is already recording it’s next release due to be out by late spring 2019. You can go to their website to check out the videos music and dates at the band’s website.

Five Reasons You Must See Adam Ant Live !

One of our all time favorite artists, a must see concert !

In honor of Adam Ant announcing both a UK and US  Friend or Foe tour  we decided to list the five reasons you must see Adam Ant live !

1 -The Hits

There are few artists alive who have had as many popular and got songs ,even less is the number of artists who are touring to play those hits . ” Prince Charming ” has turned up in many a TV series and movie along with his plethora of other hits .It is the stuff of legend .

2- The Show

Adam puts his 100% effort into every show ,with the duel drummers and approximate show time of two hours it is a show not to be missed .He plays guitar ,sings and dance all along while teasing the audience. He is not just an singer but a true performance artist .

3-The Band

Adam s band is a tight knit unit ,many of them have been with him a very long time .Duel drummers Jolo and Andy Woodard, bassist extraordinaire Joe Holweger ,and on guitars AP Leach and the talented punk rocker Will Crewdson .

4- Value

it actually costs less to see an artist perform all their songs live compared to buying all the discs or downloads and life is about memories .Do you really remember all those coffees you had at Starbucks or that time you saw a concert with your friends, memories are priceless .

5-  Nostalgia

Take yourself back to a time when mortgage didn’t matter , taxes where of no concern and you could dress or be who you want .MTV played your favorite songs and you could ” Stand and Deliver ” what ever you wanted .

All what I’m trying to say is get your butt a ticket and see an original ,the one Johnny Depp and many more copied. Please see Adams website for more info about locations at http://www.adam-ant.com

Netflix Movie Review – The Dirt – The Motley Crue Story

Hollywood , CA- The story of one of the best and brightest bands in some would say was the best era in music debuted last night on Netflix , simply called ” The Dirt ” .The small title does nothing to talk about this huge film . It takes you back to the beginning of Motley Crue in 1981 and even earlier with the childhood of Nikki Sixx . To say this film hit home was an understatement to say the least . This review will take place in  sections by actors or themes .

Nikki Sixx, the founder and bassist of Motley Crue was played by Douglas Booth , who did an excellent job with the debauchery and sadness of the real life person with out it being a facade , at times you forget it was an actor and not just Nikki himself . I can relate with the father and part of the mother in Nikki’s life.

Daniel Webber played Vince Neil , who made me tear up when her lost his daughter to cancer and the death of his friend due to drunk driving .His acting was top notch to say the least . Golden Globes are you listening .

Colson Baker aka Machine Gun Kelly did an outstanding job as Tommy Lee. he did such a phenomenal job with both the look, acting and musical chops I forgot it was MGK .I can judge because I know MGK sorta , I spent time with him at awards shows, hotel party’s and at his concerts. He was so good I forgot he was MGK and actually grew to like Tommy Lee again.

Iwan Rheon as Mick Mars , I was very impressed with both the acting and the story of Mick Mars , due to his private nature he was always a mystery to me so I am glad his story was told . Breaking the forth wall was a treat that was really enjoyed .

Be warned there is nudity and swearing and drug references , along with more nudity and drugs and more nudity and drugs .The remake of ” Live Wire ” in a slow acoustic somber tone by Meghan Kabir is simply eerie and beautiful and one of my favorites ” You Cant Put Your Arms Around a Memory ” by Johnny Thunders was well delivered.

I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars as I wish I had a time machine to take me back to  1985. Get Netflix or find a friend that has it  because this is must see TV at its finest !

Despite the new sounds that infiltrate this record – which was recorded by Mike Sapone (Taking Back Sunday, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Envy On The Coast) – Boston Manor are just as ferocious and immediate as ever. They may be embracing new elements in their sound but listen to the savage hooks of “Flower In Your Dustbin” or the vicious vitriol of “Hate You” and there’s no doubt who has made this record.

Iconic Rock Band STRYPER Announces 2019 HISTORY Tour !

Chart-topping rock band STRYPER will return to the road in May for the 2019 HISTORY Tour — Greatest Hits & Covers that influenced our generation. The all-new HISTORY Tour comes on the heels of the band’s yearlong God Damn Evil World Tour, which concluded in Japan in February.

“The music of our generation was and is timeless,” says STRYPER frontman Michael Sweet. “It was all about the song and musicians who inspired you to want to play. We grew up on bands like Van Halen, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Journey and BOSTON. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the music of these legendary bands. We thought it would be an amazing experience to play some of these songs live and show you, the audience, exactly were our roots lie. We’ll also be incorporating our own hits & videos from 1984 to 2019, and something from Perry’s past as well (Firehouse). We’re excited to get back out on the road and we look forward to seeing you soon!”

STRYPER consists of original members Michael Sweet (vocals and guitar), Robert Sweet (drums) and Oz Fox (guitar), as well as bassist Perry Richardson (formerly of the multi-platinum band Firehouse) who joined the group in 2018.

Exclusive meet & greet packages will be available in most cities. Fans will have the option of purchasing either a Standard Meet & Greet Package or VIP HISTORY Tour Meet & Greet Package. Both meet & greet packages include an opportunity to meet the band, get autographs, take photos with the guys and receive exclusive one-of-a-kind merchandise. However, the VIP HISTORY Meet & Greet Package (limited to 6 fans per city) offers additional merchandise options and a stage tour (hold Michael’s guitar, photo in front of Robert’s drum kit, overview of gear with STRYPER crew member).

STRYPER continues to dominate the hard rock/heavy metal scene with the their critically-acclaimed tenth studio album, God Damn Evil – released in 2018 via Frontiers Music srl. Rocking since 1984, STRYPER is responsible for such classic ’80s metal albums as Soldiers Under Command, To Hell with the Devil and In God We Trust. In fact, STRYPER is the first band to ever have two songs in MTV’s Top 10 simultaneously with their hits “Free” and “Honestly.” To date, the Dove Award-winning and GRAMMY-nominated band has sold over 10 million records worldwide.

Live Review – John 5 and The Creatures

Akron , Ohio- The guitar virtuoso John 5 came to the area over of the weekend to the delight of a sold-out crowd! The Empire Concert Club , an intimate venue on the outskirts of Akron, Ohio  played host to the legend in the making . John 5 known for his guitar work for both Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson proved that while he is a team player , he is a bonafide rock-star in his own right and his adoring  fans proved him right .

John 5 in front of a sold out crowd

The packed house was in a treat to hear such songs as ” Season of the Witch ” , ” This is My Rifle ” and ”  Crank It ” among many others .

Some of the crowd favorites were ” Hell Haw ” a twisted version of Hee Haw and  ” First Victim ”  I personally feel the venue was too small for an artist of his stature, but and this is just a guess I think he enjoys the more intimate venue to connect with the fans .

If you have never seen John 5 and you have even a passing interest in guitar then make it your goal to catch one of his shows you will not be disappointed . I rate it 5 out of 5 stars .To see when he may be in your area please check out the official website at http://john-5.com

A special shout out to Jared James Nichols who did a  outstanding  job warming up the crowd .
