Cleveland, Ohio- The Ace is back, to quote the hit song ” Rock Soldiers”. The legendary guitarist and founding member of the super group KISS returned to Cleveland this last weekend to the delight of many a rock fan.The capacity crowd featured fans from as young as 13 to as old as 70 and everything in between . Something about Ace just touches us, maybe with his public imperfections of which he writes songs about that the fans can relate to. Maybe it is just the fact that he is a living legend and he has awesome songs either way the packed house was in for a night of fun .
The night opened with ” Rip It Out ” and the roar of the crowd competing with the guitar amplifiers to see who was louder and the guitars won. Up next was ” Parasite ” and continued with almost 90 minutes of hit songs .
Some of my favorites were ” New York Groove ” , ” Shock Me” and ” Mission To Mars ” I was a little surprised by the inclusion of the Eddie Money song ” I Wanna Go Back ” but it was a pleasant surprise .
I had the fortunate opportunity to work with Ace a few years ago for The Hard Rock for a couple of hours. I found him to be a genuine person and all around nice guy that enjoys listing to the stories of his fans and getting to meet them .
Aces back up band were amazing musicians in their own right and included Philip Shouse on bass guitar, Ryan Cook on guitar , Jeremy Asbrock on guitar and Matt Starr on drum . Direct support was a pleasant surprise with the inclusion of the band ” Like It ” I will be doing a full review of them separately .
