Alan Parsons Live Project On Stage
Alan Parsons Live Project On Stage

To be honest I was not an original fan of the Alan Parsons Project .I am in fact a late player to the game ( I was more into hair bands in the 80’s ) but with that being said I consider my self a fan so I have been immersing myself in as much vinyl that I  and my bank account can hold .

Eye In The Sky came out in 1982 and  was nominated for a Grammy Award in that same year .  The cover is that of a Wedjat or Eye Of Horus which is the Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power and good health on a  sea foam green background. The back cover is variations of the eye in numerous settings .

The opening tract and one of my favorite song combos is ” Sirius “, followed by the title track of “Eye In The Sky” which of course is followed by  ” Children of the Moon, Gemini and Silence ” I had the opportunity to see this whole album performed lived this last fall with the Alan Parsons Live Project and to say it was spectacular is an understatement .

Side two continues with ” Your Gonna’ Get Your Fingers Burned ” , one of my favorite songs ” Pyschobabble and Mammagamma “. The final two songs are ” Step By Step and Old and Wise .”

This was a masterpiece when is first came out and should have gotten the Grammy win and I sincerely hope the academy does the right thing with the reissue and gives him the Grammy Award .

The award show airs February 10th on CBS so be sure to watch  and to get your own copy check out the official website at

Live Comedy Review -Aries Spears at Cleveland Improv

One of the funniest comics on the planet !

Cleveland, Ohio – The iconic Cleveland Improv hosted one of the best and brightest  in the comedy industry last weekend .Aries Spears , the Chicago native brought his brand of midwest and urban comedy to  the rock n’ roll  city. The sold out crowd was in for a treat .

Upon hitting the stage with some country twang intro music we knew this was not just some other show . His  timing , set and delivery is some of the best in the business . His voice talents and mimic of others is a skill few others posses and his animation and facial expressions take make back to the glory days of Redd Foxx ( in fact a few times I thought he might be channeling Redd ).

The hecklers were in full force that evening but he handled them with ease and humor and now the phrase ” Shit Emoji ” is now part of my lexicon but I unlike him must be cautious how I use it . The show was a breath of fresh air as the current state of being political correct is now forced upon the masses , at a comedy show you can just relax and enjoy being able to laugh .To be honest I was not familiar with  Aries even with his thirty plus years in the entertainment industry  but he made a fan of me.

I can’t go into his routine as it would take away from the magic of the show but if you want a night of fun and laughs , check out Aries Spears and if you cant wait he does a podcast as well . Show him some love and tell him we sent you !

The podcast can be found at

Restaurant Review -Nicko McBrain’s Rock N’ Roll Ribs

Do you have a heavy metal appetite ? This is your new home .

Coral Springs , FL-I was recently covering some assignments in  South Florida and when the opportunity to go have lunch at Rock N’ Roll Ribs  I jumped at the chance . I have been an Iron  Maiden fan since I first saw the film ” Live After Death ” in the movie theater as a teenager. They have been firmly implanted in my psyche ever since . One of my proudest moments is when I saw that the designer of their mascot Eddie ( Derek Riggs ) did the logo on one of the artists albums  I did the cover photo( Ethan Brosh ) .To say I was a fan is an understatement of the facts .

IMG_3670 copy.jpg rr

In 2009 Nicko opened Rock N’ Ribs in Coral Springs, Florida .The motto and tagline is ” Where BBQ Meets Metal ” and that is pretty true . The whole restaurant is covered is Iron Maiden memorabilia, from platinum and gold records to autographed drum heads and pictures and autographed photos from many of Nicko’s rockstar friends .

IMG_3684 copy.jpg rrIMG_3690 copy.jpg rr

The staff was friendly and courteous and the food was  America comfort food for the most part . Planet friendly serving paper  straws and to be honest giving back to the community . A resident of Boca Rotan he could have sat on his laurels but he is owner of a business , which mean employees and supporting their families and   paying taxes to support his  community .This man is a rock star and not just in the musical sense .

If you are ever in South Florida make sure you put this on your bucket list , you never know who you might see . The official website

Live Review – Ministry Returns To Cleveland Agora

One band you must see at least once in your life !

Cleveland, Ohio – The recently revamped historic Cleveland Agora played host to Uncle Al and Ministry last week the the delight and exuberance of fans. To be honest I am a recent fan  ,in my era of  80’s Metallica and  Savatage  heavy metal ,Ministry where not even in the same genre  as thought by 15 year me . I didn’t understand industrial or electric music  but that all changed when I got a book in the mail . One day I received the autobiography of  Al Jourgensen to review and my mind was blown away . The book was amazing, it as insightful, thoughtful and raw . I then had the chance to do a phone call with Al and got to the know the person behind the book and most importantly the music . Hence I now am a fan and will not miss a show if he is in the area or even somewhat a few hours away . I   met a girl and her father who I would say are super fans . Her name is Mountain she is 14  years old and has only seen one artist play live multiple times even with a three hour drive each way  . Uncle Al and Ministry is how she and her father connect and he was headbanging right beside her in front row !

Mountain with her Dad a Ministry family

The stage was rather bare compared to the last time I saw Ministry but that did not matter as I was here for the music and the show and what a show it was . Al and the boys hit the stage with an energy of new band, not a band that have done this for decades , this amp goes to eleven .

“Feel good rock n’ roll – the music tells stories we can all relate to, but in a fun way” is how songwriter/guitarist Duane Morano describes his CD, Incognito. And on its first-ever release, ‘Incognito’(whose pre sale begins on December 3rd via Pledge Music
(, video trailer for Pledge campaign here ( before its official release on February 8th, 2019), Duane has assembled a stellar supporting cast of names that are well-known to melodic rock fans worldwide – Tyketto’s Danny Vaughn, Extreme’s Pat Badger and Kevin Figueiredo, Firehouse’s Michael Foster and Bill Leverty, XYZ’s Terry Ilous, The Firm/Blue Murder’s Tony Franklin, and Alice Cooper’s Nita Strauss, among others.

As Duane explains, the CD ‘Incognito’ came together in a huge stroke of luck. “I had known Bill Leverty for a great many years so he was in from the beginning. Back in 2016, I was having dinner with Bill and was asked if I was ever going to unshelve a CD I started working on years ago. After some thought, I finished a few of the tracks in my studio and sent them to Bill to be mixed. As we listened to the mixes, it became clear to both of us I needed to get rid of the programmed drums, find a bass player instead of a guitar player trying to play bass, and get someone that could sing what I was struggling to attempt. Changes needed to be made. That was when Bill suggested his drummer Michael Foster, so I gave him a shout.”

“The next step was finding the right vocalists to fit the handful of songs that were ready. I had my MP3 player on shuffle and Great White’s ‘Hard to Say Goodbye’ came on and thought, ‘Terry’s voice would be a great fit for a song,’ so I reached out to him and he asked to hear it. I sent him an MP3 with Michael and Tony playing on it. Terry was a bit surprised that as a guitar player I hired a bass player and didn’t do it myself which is typical in self-funded, small budget projects. After explaining, Terry saw I was willing to do what’s best for the music and liked the song so he agreed to sing a song or two. As the project progressed and we got to know each other, we started trading ideas back and forth, writing and arraigning together, and ultimately ended up with 5 songs for consideration.”

“Pat coming on board was really a happy accident. For 20 years or so I’ve collected music memorabilia as hobby. Pat had a Pledge campaign going on at the time and I pledged for the Patocam. He sent me an email saying something like, ‘Dude you got the Patocam,’ so I replied with some smart-aleck funny comment. He laughed and we emailed back and forth for a few hours and went our separate ways. About a week went by and much to my surprise, I got a random email from him asking how I was doing.”

As the project’s leader explains, the album is loaded with rockin’ highlights. “Nita Strauss solo on ‘Manhattan’ was a pick up your jaw off the floor moment. Bryan Cole’s vocals on ‘Don’t Believe You’ grabs elements of rock and blues with a touch of soul, and delivers one of the best performances I’ve ever heard him do. The way Michael Foster and Pat Badger really cement and play with the groove on ‘Kid Gloves’ is really cool.”

And the guests sound equally enthusiastic about the disc. Terry Ilous – “If you want to listen to good rock and roll, good music, pledge for this CD. Duane is a wonderful guitar player and I’m looking forward to singing more songs for him.” Nita Strauss – “‘Manhattan’ is a GREAT song. Thank you for having me on it.” Bill Leverty – “Duane has an amazing CD, filled with tasty music and killer guitar work.”

Duane is also confident that his brand of rock fits in well with the current musical climate. “With the interest people have in bands of my youth, I think Incognito gives people the opportunity to hear elements of what was great about that era of music – but in a fresh way. Incognito pays tribute to that time period, but leaves the listener feeling satisfied like you’ve got something new.

And if all goes according to plan, the CD will not merely be a studio project. “Shows could happen if we can get schedules coordinated. That’s always the hardest part when trying to get people from several different active bands together in the same place at the same time. There is talk of a live version, and something Bryan, Danny, Terry, and I think could be a lot of fun.”

Lastly, what are Duane’s future plans? “Finish the CD and then spend some much-needed time with my wife and kids – while putting a live band together, for special events.”

After her family’s set , Jewel hit the stage with her backup band and to say there were a  tight  knit unit does not do them justice .The were all outstanding players in their own right !

Some of the songs she played were ” You Were Ment For Me ”  and ” Who  Will Save Your Soul ” and my favorite ” My Fathers Daughter ”

I had a few moments to speak with her father ” ATZ ” and I found  him to be a gentleman and a class act and later on in the evening when he danced with several of the ladies of the crowd it made me tear up .

If you ever get the chance to see Jewel , or any of her family please do you will be delighted and surprised.

Live Review-New Years Day Delights Cleveland Audience !

One of the best female fronted bands on the planet !

Cleveland, Ohio – The historic and newly reopened  Cleveland Masonic Hall played host to a who’s who of female fronted bands   earlier this week . Halestorm, In This Moment and New Years Day filled the venue to capacity. The weather may have brought snow and frigid temperatures but the feeling inside was hot and electric and you could  sense it in the air .

New Years Day Live On Stage
New Years Day Live On Stage

New Years Day are no overnight success story . I have  seen them several times in the last decade or so. The first time was as one of the opening bands on Warped Tour but I knew the moment I saw how they handled the crowd, much bigger things were on the horizon for this young band. Like any band they go thru their changes both  in musical style and personal . One thing for sure is that this is the best line up I have ever seen .

New Years Day Live On Stage

The singer Ashley Costello commands the stage like a general over looking her troops and the duel guitars act as machine guns piercing the landscape with sonic terror.   The drums and bass  act like giant tanks shaking the earth. This was metal at its best .

The band paged homage to the past with a great version of ” F*cking Hostile ” from Pantera along with their own tracks which included ” Kill Or Be Killed “Epidemic and a few others . Most notably they played the song ” Skeletons”  from their upcoming release .

New Years Day Live On Stage

This is a band to watch because when they start headlining arenas you can say I saw them back when . As a side note I said the same thing about Metallica and Nirvana so I an tell when a band is going to break .

The members include

    • Ash Costello – vocals (2005–present)
    • Nikki Misery – guitar (2011-present)

  • Frankie Sil – bass (2016–present)
  • Brian Sumwalt – drums (2018-present)
  • Austin Ingerman – lead guitar (2018-present)
