Kylie won an Air Guitar as her proze for being named Miss Nude Rocker 2019

The Miss Nude Rocker is a unique award . It is for the performer who best displays the old adage of sex , drugs and rock n’ roll or the spirit in which is was intended . This year it is none other then Kylie Kamakazi of Delaware. The reasons for her selection was simple. She was a true rebel in the rock n’ spirit .She sang with her own voice during her performance and did not lip sync , she has curves and is confidence and sexy and her smile and attitude is infectious like a drug . Now that is sex, drugs and rock n’ roll . You can find her on Instagram @kamakazikylie and her twitter is @kyliekamakzig1 . I would see her making a splash in all of the entertainment mediums .

The band was is great form as they are starting to take health seriously and you can tell in the sound . In near perfect record renderings this was a well oiled machined that graced the stage and lead singer Taime Downe sounded amazing .

A special shout out to fill in guitarist Sam Bam Koltun who did a great job filling in for long time guitarist Ace Van Johnson who had previous commitments and could not be on this tour . The rest of the band members are Chad Stewart ( Ohio native ) on drums .Xristian Simon on guitars and Danny Nordahl on bass .

CODA treated the fans and the band with fun and respect and I would highly recommend them if you wanted to have a great night to get away and just relax and enjoy the sounds of rock !

Live Review- Collective Soul Returns

They are not to be missed !

Northfield, Ohio – The newly renamed  MGM Northfield Park played host to one of the best bands to emerge from the 1990’s this last week , Collective Soul.  I was fortunate to be around at the start of their career when they performed at Buzzard- Palooza in July 1994 along with Moist , Junk House and Green Day. Well sorta Green Day I saw their equipment on stage but a riot broke out and that ended the show .I still have yet to see Green Day perform live . Collective Soul performed and exciting set and gave a sampling of why they would be a band to admired  for years to come.

Fast forward  to 2019 and we are  no longer in our twenties and the little band that could went out and proved they did and not only that, they outlasted many of  their peers and  are still as exciting as ever .The songs, the history, the pure love of music and performing comes thru in every melody and note . Ladies and gentleman Collective Soul is in the house .

Unlike some artists who save the hits for the last part of the show Collective Soul came out with both guitars a blazing and immediately hit the stage with a sound and fury not reserved for the faint of heart .

Tracks such as ” Observation  of Thoughts ” ” Heavy “and ” Why Pt2 ”  got the crowd on their feet and didn’t let up .

The mega-hit  “Shine ” brought me back to my youth and made me feel energized albeit with out the long hair .

Never one to  rest on their past accomplishments the band is releasing the  a  tenth studio album, Blood, and  is scheduled to be released on June 21, 2019.

Live Review – Songs & Stories an Evening with Art Alexakis & Friends

I rate this show 10 out of 10 a true must see experience .

Cleveland, Ohio – The seminal music venue House of Blues was the perfect venue to play host to one one of the top ten musical events of my life  and I have been to thousands . Art Alexakis of the multi platinum band Everclear  brought an intimate evening to music fans and he was not alone . He brought Chris Collingwood of Fountains of Wayne  ( Stacy’s Mom)  and John Wozniak of Marcy Playground ( Sex and Candy ) and Max Collins of Eve 6 ( Inside Out ) .

Songs and Stories Live on Stage
Songs and Stories Live on Stage

The evening had a great formula , all the guys would come out together and play a favorite cover song (   Dead Flowers and Eve of Destruction  among others )  then one would remain and tell the story about some of their biggest hits and play a version of it .

Songs and Stories Live on Stage

John Wozniak was up first and to say this is one of the greatest song  writers of a generation is not an understatement .His ability to tell a story  with emotion and humor is a gift to the ears and manna for the soul .Do not miss him if he comes to your town !

Songs and Stories Live on Stage

Up next was Max Collins and to be honest I didn’t care for him from the start . Please read that I said from the start because by the end of the set I was a new fan . But that is  what is music is about , trying new things and seeing if it was for you or not . His sincerity in in singing and writing needs to be heard . In addition to any Hollywood agents reading this , consider casting him in a punk based movie he would be perfect .

Chris Collingwood is not what I expected after watching Fountains of Wayne Stacy’s Moms video He was a fun show to watch and really talented in his humor. It was nice to see this performance because I usually only have seen Stacy’s Mom performed by Bowling For Soup  and Thomas Ian Nicholas in their sets .

Songs and Stories Live on Stage

The man of the hour was none other then Art Alexakis of the megahit Everclear . I had to a chance to talk to to him a few years ago for about an hour on the phone even thou he may not remember it   .We mostly talked about our duplicate history of growing up in the projects and our dads leaving us as kids and being ten years old wondering where our father has gone . He turned his history into the mega-hit ” Father of Mine ” which he played that night . It brought a tear to my eye and even thou he may not remember me  I will never forget him and I thank him for that song . On a happy nope he played other songs including the well received ” Santa Monica ”  for which he teased us all night with .

This was not a concert in the traditional sense of the word . More like some old friends coming over and just having fun and reconnecting .I rate this show  10 out of 10 a true must see experience .

COLLECTIVE SOUL performing in Northfield, OH 6/11 “Now’s The Time Tour”

Multi-Platinum, Georgia-bred rockers COLLECTIVE SOUL–E Roland (vocals / keyboards / guitar), Dean Roland (rhythm guitar), Will Turpin (bass), Jesse Triplett (lead guitar), Johnny Rabb (drums)—are pumped and primed to celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2019 in all-out style, but they’re really just gearing up for the long haul. The band’s silver anniversary year will be a celebration of their ongoing legacy in all-out style with a little bit of the classic and a lot of the new.

Not only have they already announced their Summer “Now’s The Time Tour” with Gin Blossoms that kicks off May 25, but in keeping with the Atlanta band’s theme of 2019, “now’s the time” to also let fans know that their tenth highly anticipated studio album, BLOOD, will be released June 21 on Fuzze-Flex Records/ADA. Pre-orders of the album as a download, CD, and vinyl are available on any of these digital retailers. Digital pre-orders include a download of the first single, “Right As Rain,” while downloads of “Good Place To Start” and “Them Blues,” will be available May 17 and June 7, respectively.

The “Now’s The Time Tour” with Gin Blossoms lands in Northfield, OH on Tuesday, June 11 at MGM Northfield Park – Center Stage.
“’Right As Rain’ is a phrase I had for a while,” says singer/guitarist/keyboardist E Roland. “It was one my grandmother used to tell me about–one of those old Southern things, you know? ‘C’mon, I’m gonna spank you right as rain!’ I never really knew what it meant (laughs). While I was writing it, Peter Stroud (Sheryl Crow’s lead guitarist and musical director) was home one day in Atlanta, and we invited him over to play the slide-guitar solo on the song for us. We all just sat around together and jammed it out.”

From stem to stern, BLOOD delivers in full. Witness the hard-charging skitter of “Over Me,” the optimistic declaration of “Right as Rain,” the hopeful uplift of a man “Changed,” and the tender promise of “Big Sky.” The album’s final track — the reflective, poignant acoustified coda “Porch Swing” — features background vocals and tasteful dobro licks from none other than Styx guitarist/vocalist Tommy Shaw, who was beyond thrilled to contribute to the cause. “I’ve always been a fan of E Roland and Collective Soul’s recordings,” Shaw says. “I thought about adding more parts than what Ed asked me to do, but as someone wiser than me once said, ‘Don’t paint over the masterpiece!’”

BLOOD is the culmination of a quarter-century of COLLECTIVE SOUL assessing not only where they’ve come from, but also where they’re going. “I think BLOOD expresses where we’ve been on this life journey,” observes E Roland. “And we’ve done so with songs featuring piano and strings to those with a lot of guitar riffs. BLOOD is an accumulation of all the different styles we’ve used over the years, but it’s still COLLECTIVE SOUL. I think it’s the best we’ve ever done. I know you should think that, but I really do think it’s the best. It’s a good, consistent record. We’re just so proud of it.”

While the album title, BLOOD, maybe evoke many different thoughts and ideas, for the band, it all comes down to one word: family.

“So much of it is based on the camaraderie-ship of the band,” Roland explains. “All of us basically have children, and my brother Dean just had a baby girl. Jesse’s the only one who doesn’t have kids, but he’s basically a baby, in age anyway. My brother’s in the band so there’s blood there, but the five us — it’s a family.”

From the very beginning of the band’s career, Roland always had his eye on the prize. “When ‘Shine’ came out, we got asked, ‘What’s your goal with this band?’ I said, ‘I want to have a whole row of Collective Soul recordings on the shelf.’ That was my goal,” he recounts. “Me, I always wanted to see the full body of work. That’s all I ever wanted. I knew I could write, and as the band progressed and got better, that’s why we wanted to keep going. I don’t think we ever doubted it. We, as the artists — we had no fear. The guys in the band have enough faith in my songwriting, and I have faith in them.”
“For us, we want to play the hits as we always do, but I think we also want to share the new record with our fans,” E Roland explains. “At 25 years later, we want to say, ‘Hey, we’re still making the best that we can do.’ Right now, I’ve got seven of the new songs in the setlist, and hopefully, on some nights, we can play the whole thing from start to finish. I mean, it’s our 25th anniversary. We’re going at it hard, everyone! We’re going hard.”

Indelibly memorable tracks like “December,” “The World I Know,” “Gel,” “Heavy,” and “Precious Declaration” (to name but a few) all evoke a collective sense of heartfelt observational universality and earnest positivity — in short, they’re the jukebox heroes of a new generation. Indeed, the secret sauce to COLLECTIVE SOUL’s continued success story is a simple one: a palpable mixture of insightful songwriting and impeccable band chemistry.

COLLECTIVE SOUL rose to international fame in 1993 with the rock anthem “Shine.” The multi-Platinum quintet has a catalog of #1 hits under their belts that has helped shape and define alternative rock. They’ve sold over 20 million records worldwide and continue to average over one million Spotify streams per month. They were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2009.

Live Review -Stryper Live At The Beachland Ballroom

A huge thank you to Stryper for not only a great night of music last night but for 35 years , preaching the word , hearing our thoughts and speaking our hearts. Stryper we salute you to a job well done !

Cleveland, Ohio – The musical icons Stryper made a stop in Cleveland last night to the delight of music fans old and young .The 1980’s icons started off as being labeled  Christian metal back in the day but their legacy has defined them as skilled and creative musicians .The duel guitar work and beautiful melodies go way beyond labels . Just great songs and even greater musicians.

Last night show was billed as the ” History ” tour a night of hits, theirs and ours and was it ever    . Besides the traditional Stryper set such  ” Calling In On You “and ” To Hell With The Devil ” they played a nice selection covers from Kiss , Judas Priest , Queen, Van Halen  and a few others .

DSC02084 copy

The fact that this band has been going for 35 years strong prove the dedication of their fans . I am not age biased as I am getting up their as well but I saw quite a few fans in walkers , wheel chairs and scooters .The ironic part was that I have known most of those fans for  over two decades but to see them young again, raising their fists in the air and rocking out , proves to the power of music.

DSC06341 copy

Stryper consists of Michael Sweet on vocals and guitar ( one of the most underrated guitarists out there, his riffs are heavy, his melodies beautiful and his solos are skillful )

Robert Sweet on drums ,  who monstrosity of a drum  kit    would make  Led Zeppelin’s John Bonham nod in approval but with the skill and creativity to put it all to use .

DSC06271 copy

Oz Fox on guitar whose quiet demeanor hides the guitar demon he is ( can you call someone in Stryper a demon . In this case I give myself a pass .

Rounding out the bass position is the newest member of the group, Perry Richardson formally of Firehouse doing a great job on the bass and backing vocals , especially on Panama .

A huge thank you to Stryper for not only a great night of music last night but for 35 years , preaching the word , hearing our thoughts and speaking our hearts. Stryper we salute you to a job well done !
