I was not sure what to expect in “Geostorm” the new disaster film staring Gerald Butler .Usually modern disaster films are not well produced and written masterpieces like they were in the past in the 1970’s with “The Poseidon Adventure” of in the 1990’s with “Twister” so my expectations were not high. However like most of the viewing public I like a good surprise and with this film we were happily surprised.
Geostorm is a 2017 American science fiction disaster film[1] co-written, produced, and directed by Dean Devlin as his feature film directorial debut. The film stars Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Alexandra Maria Lara, Richard Schiff, Robert Sheehan, Daniel Wu, Eugenio Derbez, Ed Harris, and Andy García. The plot follows a satellite designer who tries to save the world from a storm of epic proportions caused by malfunctioning climate-controlling satellites.
The idea of using satellites to help divert natural disasters is a stroke of genius and timely with current recovery of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey still fresh on the minds of people .The acting was well done, the underlying tones of family and loyalty along with moral dilemma of questioning ones leaders make for a very well done film I give is 3 and 1/2 stars out of four .
If you are looking for an escape from the stress of reality and a break from the constant bombardments of bad news in the media we recommend you give Geostorm a try . It might just make your day .
