1-Legacy

Formed in 1982 and finding success in 1984 the band has had decades of hits , with positive messages about faith and salvation and undying love as the main themes of their songs. The pure hits of ” Calling On You ” , ” Honestly ” and ” To Hell With The Devil ” ensure that their legacy will live on for many many more decades . One of the few ” Big Hair Bands ” ( I hate that designation ) that survived  and  still thrive to this day.

2- God Damn Evil

The new release from the band is tearing up the music scene with both critics and fans literally singing its praise. The tracts ” The Valley ” has amazing duel guitar work .” Sorry ” has the message we can all relate to and ” God Damn Evil ” brings with it the power of the message along with the  musical chops to back it up. A great album pick one up today.

3- Same Band New Member

The announcement of former Firehouse bassist Perry Richardson joining  Stryper in October 2017   brings with him decades of musical talent  in both the metal and country music scenes . I saw him  perform recently and can say he is a a great addition to the band and a perfect fit.

4-  Michael  Sweet Shreds on the Guitar !

That’s right I said it ,the man knows his way around a fret board . The pure six string talent and blistering leads coming from his guitar cannot be over stated. Known mostly as a singer he was never a slouch in the rhythm section but his leads in a  songs bridges are over the top . He has the ability to over play but the sense to know what fits the song. Guitarists in training please take examples from this man.

5- The Message

I know it is not politically correct in this day of millennial’s being offended by everything ever said , spoken , sang or viewed .But the message of Stryper stating that there is a  love for that never ends, that we are all flawed and we can be accepted even with our flaws is what society needs. To be a better version of ourselves and to try to make the would around us better. I am sorry but not sorry the world needs fixed and the message is what matters .

Stryper is

Michael Sweet – lead vocals, guitar

Robert Sweet – drums, percussion
Oz Fox – guitar, backing vocals
Perry Richardson –bass guitar

Stryper was supported on the Cleveland date by the bands Mourning Wagon and Hell and Back  who both did a great job firing up the packed house.

Cleveland, Ohio – The iconic Cleveland Agora ( recently purchased by AEG Entertainment ) played host to one of the leaders of industrial music this weekend, the band Ministry. The leader and founder of the group Al Jourgensen commanded the stage like a general leading his troops .Uncle Al as he is affectingly called by his fans writes and performs songs based upon politics , current events and his life. The band debuted one of their newest songs at this show called ” ANTIFA ” which won the crowd over rather quickly.

The stage was adorned with two large inflatable chickens sporting orange hair and a bar symbol placed over a  swastika  and it eluded to the current  state of our nation.I had the chance to speak with Uncle Al a few times but never had the opportunity to see them perform live so I was excited about this show .I can sum up the show in just  four  words ” Not To Be Missed ” This is a living legend still at  his peak creatively and musically. The  songs came in rapid fire succession such as ” Psalm 69″  ,Rio, Wargasim, and NWO ” just to name a few.  ” Gates of Steel”was fan favorite  as well .

The Pixies Ecstasize Cleveland Agora

20171003_215743

Legendary grunge and alt rock band, The Pixies, performed at the Cleveland Agora October 3rd for their North American Tour to promote their new album “Head Carrier”. They played to a near capacity crowd, with hundreds of fans dancing and screaming every word to their favorite songs, maybe even reliving the more carefree days of the 90’s grunge culture. Fans of all ages were there, from surrounding states even, to see them play their strange rock and roll.

The Pixies set list spanned over two decades of their discography. They opened with “Waves of Mutilation“, a track off their 1989 album Doolittle, for which they also played the songs “Hey” and “Debaser”. Their lighting crew was impeccable, green lights for “Gouge Away” just like a show they played in 1990. Flooding violet lights for “Velouria”, which totally matched the mood. The Pixies obviously love their fans as they also played one of their most popular songs, “Where is my Mind”, which was also featured in the cult classic, “Fight Club”. As soon as they played that song, the crowd instantly electrified.

Opening for The Pixies was the American rock band Sunflower Bean from Brooklyn NYC. They had a pretty great, weird punk rock sound to them. Like an indie futuristic Blondie.

Being the Pixies fan that I am, I can probably say this is one of the best concerts of any band I’ve ever seen. What a great experience it is to see the great, creative, and soulful minds behind the music you listen to everyday.

The New York powerhouse known as Eve to Adam played to Cleveland fans last week in support of their latest full length release ” Odyssey ” The world famous Agora hosted the evening and the intimate ballroom provided the perfect venue .  Eve to Adam has always had the uncanny ability to connect with the audience thru song and their many heralded performances .  I first saw them  in 2012 at the Rock on The Range festival in Columbus Ohio where they delighted thousands of music lovers , approximately 80,000 or so . I next caught them  at the now defunct Peabody’s, on tour with Texas Hippie Coalition to a standing room only crowd . ( please see attached archives material as the end of this article )This time was at the  Cleveland Agora and although it is a more intimate venue they rocked liked it was Coachilla pleasing every fan in the house.

They brought new song for the brand new album ” Odyssey ” along with some fan favorites as well including ” Landfill ” one of our favorites off the new disk and ” Straight Jacket Super Model ” for which I dedicate to one of my ex’s every time I hear it .  In addition ” Locked and Loaded  ” any many more . The best part of this band is the feeling of fun they put out to the audience , just a great night to be alive with great music . The band was joined on tour with direct support provided by Letters to Sylvia and with local support from Erie, Pennsylvania’s own Kevlar who I look forward to seeing in the future again .
