Youngstown ,Ohio-The iconic rock group Styx , whose mega hit career that has spawned decades of rock anthems descended from the heavens to play a sold out show in Youngstown this week. The historic Stambaugh  Auditorium has had many famous artists grace their stage in nearly 100 year history. Stambaugh has hosted a wide variety of performers, educators and speakers. Artists from Tony Bennett to Bob Dylan, American Ballet to Liberace, Bruce Springsteen to orchestras and countless others have all graced the main stage and on this day Styx was in town to rock the place. The event was made possible from the team behind Sunrise Entertainment , Marty Cohen and Ken Haidaris whose hard work and dedication is striving to keep music alive in the Warren/Younstown area and to this we salute them.

The evening started out with an inspiring performance from opening act Levon , a trio from Nashville, TN. The lights went dark and  a hush went thru the crowd as the eagerly awaiting Styx hit the stage with a wall of sound .The first track of the night was “Gone, Gone, Gone” to be followed by their biggest hits and some fan favorites including , ” Blue Collar Man “, ” The Grand Illusion “, ” Lady” and many more . The   musicianship, showmanship and pure joy coming of of the stage was transferred to the audience as smiles and air guitars rocked the place to the rafters.

Lawrence Gowan is one of the most talented and gifted vocalists I have ever heard and puts on a stellar show and included a melody of hits and stories including one about him and John Lennon’s piano to delight the crowd.

STYX bringing over four decades of Classic Rock hits to Stambaugh Auditorium!!!

On Thursday, May 11th at 7:30pm, Stambaugh Auditorium and Sunrise Entertainment will welcome classic rock icons STYX to Youngstown. Styx is entering their second decade of averaging over 100 shows per year. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 10th at 10am through the Florence and Ward Beecher Box Office at Stambaugh Auditorium.

Styx draws from over four decades of barn burning chart hits, joyous sing-a-longs, and hard-driving deep cuts. Like a symphony that builds to a satisfying crescendo, a Styx set covers a wide range of stylistic cornerstones. Some of their biggest hits include: “Fooling Yourself,” “Lorelei,” “Too Much Time on My Hands,” “Boat on the River,” “The Grand Illusion,” “Blue Collar Man,” “Lady,” “Miss America,” “Man in the Wilderness,” “Crystal Ball,” “Come Sail Away,” and “Renegade.”

Guitarist and vocalist Tommy Shaw notes, “Our live show is like a religious experience where people come to commune and testify. We have a pretty sophisticated audience, and we really respect that. We didn’t used to have people who would come see every show, but now they’re coming back again and again for more. And we owe it to our fans to continually rehearse, prepare, and improve.”

I’m humbled for this band to have the great success that it has, and I recognize what we have could go away in an instant.” “We just want to keep on doing this,” adds Shaw. “We want to let life take its course and let this music continue to be the soundtrack to it.”

Alan Parsons Delight Youngstown Audience

The folks at Sunrise Entertainment brought legendary musician and producer Alan Parsons to Youngstown’s Powers Auditorium last week and he did not disappoint .The crowd was a mixed age of teenagers to the seasoned music goer and everything in between.Patrons from Pittsburgh to Columbus showed up see a night of magic and wonder brought to life in a series of sharp and flat notes dancing magically in the ear drums and on the eyes . Alan Parsons sold over 50 millions records from 1976 to 1986 not including his historical time with both the Beatles and Pink Floyd .That is one resume most artists would be happy with one tenth of the history .

a-img_3694The evening started with the iconic I Robot  and followed with Damned if I do .

The wonderful Don’t Answer me came up next to the delight of the audience

a-img_3519The night consisted of 23 songs all of them hits with out any filler in the bunch , some of my favorites were Eye In The Sky ,Time and Psychobabble .

a-img_3672Some of the best parts of the evening were when Alan tells the audience stories of his adventures or misadventures as it were from the life of an iconic icon .The touring musicians associated with Alan were some of the best we have ever seen each adding their own take on the compositions.

a-img_3630The band consists of PJ Olsson on Vocals , Alastair Greene on lead guitar and vocals,Danny Thompson on drums , Guy Erez on bass guitar , Tom Brooks on keyboards,Todd Cooper on Saxophone and vocals , Dan Tracey on guitars and Manny Focarazzo   . If you ever get a chance to see this act live we highly suggest you do , its a night to remember !
